Run a security check on your computer

Important: Compromised  passwords have been implicated in a data breach on a third-party website or application. Change compromised passwords as soon as you can.

You can manage Chrome’s safety and security with Safety Check. The security check looks for:

  • compromised passwords
  • safe browsing status
  • Chrome updates available

On a computer, Safety Check also looks for:

  • harmful extensions
  • Malware (Windows only)
  1. On your computer, open Chrome Chromium.
  2. At the top, click More Arrange and so settings .
  3. Click Privacy & Security .
  4. Under ‘Security verification’, select Verify now.
  5. If Chrome is having issues:
    1. Select the item with the problem.
    2. Follow the instructions on the screen.

Enable HTTPS mode first

Connections to sites that use HTTPS are more secure than those that do not. When you enable HTTPS-First mode, Chrome tries to load all sites over HTTPS and displays a warning before you visit a site that doesn’t support it.

  1. On your computer, open Chrome Chromium.
  2. At the top right, click More Arrange and so settings .
  3. On the left, click Privacy and security .
  4. Click Security .
  5. Enable Always use secure connections .

  1. En su computadora, abra Chrome Chromium.
  2. En la parte superior derecha, selecciona Más More and so configuraciones
  3. Haz clic en Privacidad y seguridad  and so Seguridad .
  4. Active  o desactive Usar DNS seguro .

You’ll see this error when the page has tried to redirect you too many times.

Sometimes, pages don’t open because cookies aren’t working correctly. To fix the error, try clearing your cookies.

“Este sitio no puede proporcionar una conexión segura; el error de red envió una respuesta no válida” o “ERR_SSL_FALLBACK_BEYOND_MINIMUM_VERSION”

You’ll see this error if the page had an error that Chrome couldn’t understand. To fix the error, contact the website owner.

If you own this website, learn how to fix the ERR_SSL_FALLBACK_BEYOND_MINIMUM_VERSION error.

“ERR_CERT_SYMANTEC_LEGACY”

If the error mentions Symantec, ask the site owner to update the site’s certificate. Learn more about why Symantec-issued certificates aren’t supported.

“Su conexión no es privada”, “NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID”, “ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID”, “NET::ERR_CERT_WEAK_SIGNATURE_ALGORITHM”, “ERR_CERTIFICATE_TRANSPARENCY_REQUIRED” o “Error de certificado SSL”

If the error mentions HSTS, privacy certificates, or invalid names, try the following steps:

Step 1: Sign in to the portal

Wi-Fi networks at places like cafes or airports need you to sign in. To see the sign-in page, visit a page that uses http://.

  1. Go to any website starting with http://, like http://example.com.
  2. On the sign-in page that opens, sign in to use the internet.

Step 2: Open the page in Incognito mode (computer only)

Open the page you were visiting in an Incognito window.

If the page opens, a Chrome extension isn’t working right. To fix the error, turn off the extension. Learn how to turn off Chrome extensions.

Step 3: Update your operating system

Make sure your device is up-to-date on Windows, Mac, or another operating system.

Step 4: Temporarily turn off your antivirus

You will see this error if you have antivirus software that provides “HTTPS protection” or “HTTPS scanning”. Antivirus prevents Chrome from providing security.

To solve the problem, disable your anti-virus software. If the page works after disabling the software, disable this software when using secure sites.

Don’t forget to re-enable your antivirus program when you’re done.

Step 5Get more help

If the error persists, contact the website owner. You can also get help from the Chrome Help forum.

“Connect to network”

You’ll see this error if you’re using a Wi-Fi portal where you need to connect before you can connect.

“Server has a Diffie-Hellman weak ephemeral public key” or “ERR_SSL_WEAK_EPHEMERAL_DH_KEY”

You will see this error if you try to access a website with an outdated security code. Chrome protects your privacy by not allowing you to connect to these sites.

If you own this website, try updating your server to support ECDHE and disable DHE. If ECDHE is not available, you can disable all DHE cipher suites and use RSA in the clear.

“This webpage is not available” or “ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH”

You will see this error if you try to access a website with an outdated security code. Chrome protects your privacy by not allowing you to connect to these sites.

If you own this website, try setting your server to use TLS 1.2 and TLS_ECDHE_RSA_WITH_AES_128_GCM_SHA256, instead of RC4. RC4 is no longer considered secure. If you cannot disable RC4, make sure other non-RC4 ciphers are enabled.

  • Click Skip to continue to the link you opened.
