Start restrictions after adding game time or membership

Updated: 10 months ago

Article number: 114321

Affected products:

Common problems

  • I recently added playtime, but the original restrictions are still in place.
  • How can I remove boot restrictions?

When adding game time to an inactive or newly created World of Warcraft account, Starter Edition limitations will apply until the order is completed . This can take up to 24 hours depending on the payment method used. You can see the status of your order in your transaction history.

If you have multiple World of Warcraft accounts (WoW1, WoW2…), check which one you have activated and make sure to start the game by selecting the correct WoW account. If you added your game time or subscription to the wrong account, please contact us.

If 24 hours have passed, the command shows as complete and you still see the boot version limitations, try resetting your password. This will update your account status with our servers and remove restrictions.

Customer Service cannot remove the initial restrictions.

Account remains Starter Edition after expansion update

Updated: 5 months ago

Article number: 171762

Affected products:

Common problems

  • I purchased the game and it says I have it, but it still says I’m on a Starter Version account
  • I bought Shadowlands but I can’t play beyond level 20

A World of Warcraft account is not fully upgraded until you add game time or a subscription. Expansions do not always include game time. If the expansion product you purchased did not include game time, you can add a subscription or purchase digital game time from the Battle.net store.
