What are the different ways to monetize?

Your access to features may change depending on the number of subscribers you have. Learn more about our different features and eligibility requirements.

I meet all the requirements, why can’t I activate a specific feature?

Our reviewers also review your channel to see if it’s appropriate for you to enable a certain feature. Some features may not be available due to local legal restrictions or YouTube’s ability to support your country/region or language.

What do all the icons mean?

Generally, the icons inform you of the monetization status of the video. Learn more about icon monetization and its impact on your earnings.

Can I appeal a yellow icon?

You can compare your content to our guidelines and examples of advertiser-friendly content. If your content meets all the criteria of “you can enable ads for this content”, you can appeal.

Access to monetization

What happens if I go below the monetization threshold?

YouTube will not automatically remove your channel’s access to monetization if it falls below the threshold. However, YouTube reserves the right, at its discretion, to remove monetization from a channel if a channel is inactive and does not upload or post community posts for 6 months or longer.

Channels will lose monetization if they violate any of YouTube’s monetization policies, regardless of watch hours and subscriber count.

What happens if I lose access to monetization?

If it is determined that your channel is no longer eligible for monetization, it will lose access to all monetization tools and related features.

If we removed your channel from monetization due to policy violations, you should start by going to the monetization page to learn more about the policies your channel violated. Then review your videos against our YouTube Monetization Guidelines and our Community Guidelines. The next step is to edit or remove any videos that violate our policies.

You can continue to upload original content and grow your audience on YouTube. If your channel is suspended from the YouTube Partner Program, you can reapply to the program after 30 days.

Why was I rejected for monetization?

If your request was rejected, it means that our human reviewers believe that a significant part of your channel does not comply with our rules and guidelines. For more information on next steps, see the other questions in this article.

Can I apply again?

Yes, you can apply 30 days after receiving your rejection email. You will need to correct your string before reapplying.

What can I do to strengthen my app?

We cannot promise that you will be able to monetize once your channel is fixed. But we have some general guidelines to help you get your channel eligible for the program.

  1. Read your rejection email. It will let you know what specific rules your channel has violated.

Check the monetization status on your channel

Participation in the YouTube Partner Program has been terminated.

If it is decided that your channel is no longer eligible for monetization, your channel will lose access to all monetization tools and features.

Your channel will then no longer earn money on YouTube. This restriction includes revenue from advertising, YouTube Premium subscriptions, and products such as channel subscriptions.

You can continue to upload original content and grow your audience on YouTube even if you’re not part of the YouTube Partner Program. You can reapply to the program 30 days after suspension.

How to re-enable monetization

Important  : Removing a video with the Community Guidelines or copyright strikes will not resolve the issue. Learn more below.

Serious violations of our YouTube monetization policies may result in monetization being permanently disabled on any of your accounts.

Community guidelines and copyright issues

Videos with Community Guidelines strikes, copyright strikes, and videos with visuals that match third-party content may contribute to monetization suspension on all your linked accounts.

Removing the video will not resolve community guidelines or copyright issues. To re-enable monetization on your channel: Learn how to appeal a Community Guidelines strike or resolve a copyright strike.

If you can’t resolve your copyright or Community Guidelines issues

If you can’t resolve your copyright or Community Guidelines issues, we may re-enable monetization on your channel after three months. You will need to meet the following criteria:

  • You haven’t encountered any new copyright or Community Guidelines issues in the last three months.
  • You use your channel in accordance with our policies: for example, by uploading content that you have the right to monetize.

Participation in the YouTube Partner Program has been suspended

You can reapply to the program 30 days after suspension. Follow these general guidelines:

  1. Start by going to the monetization page to learn more about the policy your channel is violating.
  2. Next, review your videos against our YouTube Monetization Guidelines and Community Guidelines.
  3. The next step is to edit or remove any videos that violate our policies

If you reapply, our review team will carefully review your content again. We’ll email you to let you know when the process is complete (takes about a month). You can also check the status of your app on the monetization page.

Address or ID not validated in AdSense

To ensure the security of your account, AdSense requires you to verify your address before sending you payments. To do this, we send a personal identification number (PIN) to your payment address. You will then need to enter this PIN into your account.

Depending on your location, we may need to verify your identity using information such as your name, address or date of birth. If you are required to provide this information, you will generally not be prompted to verify your address until you have successfully verified your identity.

If your identity or PIN is not validated, your channel cannot be monetized. Once you have verified your identity or PIN, you can monetize.
